How We Research
Every guide on Best Vacuum Choice starts with one question: will this product work for the home and mess you need to clean? For a vacuum or floor care tool, that means your surfaces, room layout, cleaning habits and how much upkeep you can manage.
Here is how we answer it.
1. We start with the home and the job
A robot vacuum that gets stuck on rugs is the wrong choice for a home with thick thresholds. A carpet cleaner without the right attachments may not help much with stairs or upholstery.
We check floor compatibility, suction and cleaning modes, bin or tank capacity, runtime, dimensions and weight. For pet hair, allergies, cars or workshops, we look at the features that matter for that specific job and say what to check in your space.
2. We compare specs and features
We look at the numbers and details the maker lists: battery life and charging time, filtration, brush design, cord length, water capacity, included tools and replacement parts.
Makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms, maintenance needs and compatible supplies the maker lists.
3. We look at buyer feedback
We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like weak pickup, hair tangles, short battery life, navigation problems, leaks or parts that wear out early.
One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.
4. We score each product
Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A vacuum suited to carpet and pet hair may score lower in a guide for small homes or hard floors.
Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.
5. We keep pages up to date
Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers sell close models under similar names, so we check each model name, specifications and what comes in the box, and we only link new units.
We skip products with unclear details or a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.
What our picks are not
Our picks are research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.
For cleaning products and appliances, follow the maker's instructions for your surfaces and use. Check the product manual before maintenance or repair.
